hello dearest bitches!! i'm hoping to move out of my parents' place after i turn 18 this summer, very exciting however i am not prepared at all. i'm used to living very comfortably, and while getting out asap will be better for my mental health, i'm scared to jump from "mom pays for my clothes" to rent and health insurance. i have pretty much no frame of reference since my parents are so well off. like i could not tell you whether 5 bucks is a reasonable price for a box of raisin bran. it's Bad.
right now my total savings are about $900, i can't work typical part time jobs because of health issues, and i want to live without roommates so i can have my cute little studio apt and experience privacy for the first time ever. (rent around here for a studio is around $800-$1k.) do any of these go together? am i allowed to buy oreos once a month? do i actually need a high deductible insurance plan? is $200 too much to pay for a couch???
if nothing else please tell me a normal price for a couch. ikea has a really wide selection and idk if i should just pick the cheapest or what lmao. love you guys so so much and i hope y'all are safe n healthy <3

Cherub, congrats on moving out! And thanks for making me laugh with that line about raisin bran, very Lucille Bluth.
For a couch you’re going to want to make sure it fits in your space and is comfortable enough for you to actually sit on for extended periods of time. The cost of couches (and raisin bran!) can vary depending on where you live and size/quality. I think the last couch I bought was $1000, BUT it was a huge sectional for a multi-person household that we bought new. If you’re looking for something for a studio, presumably you will be buying a much smaller couch, and you can check out thrift stores or local exchanges for cheaper, used options as well.
